The Tringgus has a long relationship with the Biemban (the Semban and Rejoi people), stories of war, migration, etc. They speak more or less the same dialect because of their origin and their common history. I've been told that there is still the jungle path that the Rejoi and Tringgus people used to tread on hundred of years ago and this path still exists along one of the passes in the Bengoh range. It would take around 6-8 hours walk, according to them lah...

Sait and Bojong group belong to the Bitebia' dialect, which consists of settlements in Maras, Kiding, Jabir, etc.

As for the Sadir/Simuti groups, they belong to the bigger Biannah (Benah) group of Annah Semeru, Annah Rais, Annah Sadir, Annah Simuti, Annah Sibuang and Annah Sibukar. I was told by people in Simuti that they originally started in Rais before settling in Simuti. Then, slowly they spread out to Sadir, Sibuang and Sibukar. As for the "Tebedu side", actually, some families moved to that area many years ago. I can't remember the time but it's in my notebook somewhere. The place on the "Tebedu side" is called Tepoi, and they speak more or less like the Biannah.

The two guys featured in Firdaus' article has since passed away, literally leaving no one in Tringgus to carry out the important rituals. Apart from warring with the Biemban (among others lah..), they also had a couple of war stories with the Gumbang. :)

Tepoi is just about 2 hours walk from Simuti. There's only one steep hill to climb and for the rest of the time, you'd be walking on the mountain ridge. I must agree with you, the scenery is beautiful especially in the evening. I would go to Simuti just to watch the sun goes down beyond the mountain ranges.

As for the Bidayuh kampung in the Indon side, I've been to Siding and also Sebujit from Gumbang (can also walk from Tringgus, about 7-8 hours). From Sadir, it's about 3-4 hours' walk to the next kampung on the Indon side called Ba'Giam in Kepala Pasang.

Documentation? Even if you bring your passport with you to these places on the Indon side, who will stamp it for you? :) You may only need to inform the Indonesian soldiers at Siding if you're going to Sebujit or Botok. But for Ba'Giam side, there's no checkpoint.

I've posted some of the photos into my blog and most others into my so-called 'pictorial' blog. This one is taken from that staircase shed in Simuti sometimes last year. Time was around 7pm.
