Re: Tringgus Tribe of Sarawakhowever on the deliberate side..please note that not because they (refer to old timer with great talisman whatsover...) do not want to share their knowledge or skill but i believe more than a few interrelated factor jeopardizing the effort to spread or dessimate their knowledge...
number one factor that i can think of....no proper documentation on whatsoever skill,knowledge,expertise.... without proper documentation in any form, i would say,..it would be very difficult to uphold the longevity and continuity of certain tradition or cultural aspect....lets take one example...the perfect timing for planting or opening new padi huma plot...mesti ada cara org lama ni nak kira masa yg sesuai...tapi benda ni tak pernah direkodkan same goes to few other skills...like knowing which wild plant that can be taken raw, wild mushroom, etc...is there any manual on that?..tak ada kan.. ..and also item like cerita rakyat which pass generation to another using verbal...without proper documentation it will soon lost...while in rejoi, someone in our group try to record Piminyu Nyamba..but that fellow was not around..so we can't second factor..the time have change and the new generation may have a differed priorities and need..so most of the time we tend to forgot and overlook all of these things....masa gawai je balik kapg..mana ada masa nak belaja semua benda tu... jadi kedua-dua faktor tu saya rasa menyumbang kepada situasi akan susahnya nak menjaga dan mengekalkan semua ini.. satu.. sebab org tua tu sendiri dah semakin tua dan tiada usaha nak merekodkan kedua..sebab kalau diajar pun bukan anak muda nak tau benda tu....main tenet rajinlah...hehee ..jadi abg ejol.. itu pandangan saya... Berhati-hati di jalanraya.. .dan juga di parking lot.

Re: Tringgus Tribe of Sarawakbidayuhs are lucky (or maybe unlucky) to be malaysian as if not because the moutanious terrain of the geographical landscape making it difficult to really divide malaysia and indonesia border between sarawak and kalimatan. due to that those days the people responsible in mapping out the border line have to make it a straight line or esle they will never can complete the job so maybe due to difficulties in some areas they with or without knowing it they could have included bidayuh settlements and villages to part of malaysia. being done that the populaiton of bidayuh is small in malaysia. as for actual fact the main heartland of bidayuh is actually within the mountainous areas of kalimantan.
the tringgus tribe maybe extinct in malaysia part i beleive many areas in kalimantan still has tringgus people. those people especially the bidayuh of gumbang located just next to the border use to walk down from the highland or moutains to bidayuh village in jagoi to do barter trade. they will travel on foot and carry big juah or tambuk on thier heads and back filled with forest or hunting and agricultural product and trade it in exchange for more modernise product such as cloth, appliances, and other necessities. due to the strict border control now the trade can only be done at the border check point. we are somthing like the malaysian chinese where the majority of the population ins in china or like the indians where the majority population is in india as our bidayuh is majority in kalimantan. in fact if the whole of borneo is made a country, other than iban which is a majority in sarawak and the kadazan who is a majority in sabah, we bidayuh will be the biggest race in the whole of borneo. if we go to kalimantan as some of us did, we can hear that the dialect is some sort similar as we can still understand some of the words used.
Re: Tringgus Tribe of SarawakDear gothness..sori to tumpang your thread..but I believe my article below may have something to do with your topic..iaitu pasal orang Tringgus..
Thanks.. Extracted in part from my blog. Journey to the end of the world …. Sori should the title misleading you into believing that would be another epic adventure….but this is my own version of so-called journey to the very end of Penrisseen and Padawan road, the very heart of Bidayuh region…. This writing is on my previous day trip to visit my friend’s relative who resides at Kampung Sadir..and from there he brought as to Simuti dan Sibakar, at the very edge of international boarder with Kalimantan. (after this we will called him Somba) To go there, you may use Borneo Highland roadway (batu 10) or Padawan (batu 24) road, either which will bring you to Annah Rais, where the tar-sealed road ended and gravel path like this await you. ![]() Drive on for another 20min till you see a junction. Turn left to Sadir and right to Sibakar, Sibuang and Simuti. Sori no picture of that simpang. Then we reach Sadir and went for a drink at my friend’s relative. Small concrete pool with fish inside. Only 1 foot high with an array of fresh water fish…tilapia, seluang…and also astonishingly ..ikan semah. ![]() Then we went on to visit Semuti. 15mins drive till we see this signage. A kid was seen playing long bow…. ![]() Berhati-hati di jalanraya.. .dan juga di parking lot.
